To be sure, great opportunity and privilege do not necessarily lead to successful lives, nor do hardship and strife necessarily lead to under-achievement. There are outliers on all sides. And different people rightly have different ideas of what achievements are worthy. That said, appreciating the diversity of starting points in pursuing life goals is an important step to empathy and humility, and from there much good can flow.
