Free energy doubles: UK and Germany break solar record

Naysayers don’t look now but:

The South West's First Solar Farm Is Connected“Britain and Germany have broken records for generating solar electricity in the last few weeks, according to new industry figures.

Germany generated over half its electricity demand from solar for the first time ever on 9 June, and the UK, basking in the sunniest weatherof summer during the longest days of the year, nearly doubled its 2013 peak solar power output at the solstice weekend.

France, Italy, Denmark and other countries are also believed to have generated record amounts in June.

According to UK trade body the Solar Trade association (STA), the total UK installed solar capacity generated from homes, buildings and solar farms is now about 4.7 gigawatts compared to 2.7GW in July last year.”  See: UK and Germany break solar power records

Strength training key to health

While many people understand the vitality benefits of cardio activities and maintaining a healthy body weight, I am frequently surprised at how few seem to grasp the importance of weight-bearing and resistance training in order to build and maintain healthy muscle mass. The fact is that unless our job is physically exerting, even those that maintain a regular exercise regime today have a predominantly sedentary lifestyle. Maintaining strength and agility requires a concerted effort at maintaining muscle mass as we age.

Over the years, I have heard several people explain that they don’t train with weight because they do not want to “get bulky”, which is a very naive statement. Anyone who has ever tried to put on muscle mass, knows that it is actually quite difficult to add bulk. That said keeping muscles strong and lean has wide ranging health benefits from metabolism boosting, to agility, balance, and disease fighting. See: How to keep your muscles strong as you age.
