The popular US 30-mortgage rate at 7.53% is the highest since August 2001 (shown below)–the massive increase in a short period restricts the ability to move, buy homes and consume goods and services of all kinds. And the shock is global. Underestimating the economic and financial ramifications is a mistake.

As mentioned in this segment, a recent Credit Karma survey finds that 56% of student loan borrowers say they will have to reduce spending on basic necessities to resume loan payments in October and more than half say they’re struggling to pay auto loans, mortgages, credit card balances and other bills. Forty-five percent of borrowers expect their loans will go delinquent as the forbearance period ends.
