Must watch documentary: ‘The China Hustle’

Finally got to this one last night. Now on iTunes and Netflix, everyone should watch it because–consumers, workers, retirees, taxpayers, investors and savers–it affects all of us.  The Forbes’ review is here:  ‘The China Hustle’ is the most important film of 2018.

From the producers of ENRON: THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM comes a Wall Street heist story about a still-unfolding financial crime so big, it has the power to affect all of our wallets. Investors on the fringes of the financial world feverishly seek new alternatives for high-return investments in the global markets, and have found a goldmine in China. But when one investor discovers a massive web of fraud, everything else is called into question. Jed Rothstein’s documentary rings the alarm on the need for transparency in an increasingly deregulated financial world by following those working to uncover the biggest heist you’ve never heard of. MGM building solar energy system to power Las Vegas casinos

Good grief, at last.  After spending fortunes cooling their buildings with old energy systems, Las Vegas casinos are finally seeing dollar signs in the free desert sun.  Starting with a solar array atop Mandalay Bay in 2014, expanded to 20 roof acres in 2016, MGM is now adding more arrays and advancing battery technology.  See:  MGM Resorts will use solar array to power Las Vegas casinos:

MGM Resorts International plans to power its sizable share of the Strip with a dedicated solar array capable of supplying up to 90 percent of daytime demand at the company’s 13 Las Vegas casinos.

MGM Resorts is partnering with Chicago-based renewable developer Invenergy on a new 100-megawatt photovoltaic array set to go online in 2020, about 25 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

…Once the Invenergy project goes on line, Ortega said, 30 percent of MGM Resort’s power in Southern Nevada will come from clean, renewable sources. “That means no carbon emissions,” she said.

The company hopes to increase that amount to 50 percent in the coming years with the help of advancing battery technology that will enable the storage of solar power for nighttime use.
