PunkFT: How to spot the next financial crisis

A regular reader recently asked, “Wait, you think we could see another financial market meltdown like in 2008?” I was actually surprised that a regular reader and other sentient beings witnessing macro forces and the extreme leverage and risk-taking in the world all around them today, would not already know the answer to this question:  “Why, of course!’

Pew poll no surprise: 70% of those under 50 opt to prioritize renewable energies

A new report from the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental organization, looked at data from U.S. government databases and other sources on renewables and energy efficiency from 2016 and the first half of 2017. It found that the U.S. made record-breaking progress in several areas, from increasing solar and wind power capacity and generation to reducing carbon pollution and greenhouse gases.

In a continued streak of goodwill during this year’s devastating hurricane season, Tesla has been shipping hundreds of its Powerwall batteries to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Since the hurricane hit on 20 September, much of the U.S. territory has been left without power — about 97 percent, as of 27 September — hampering residents’ access to drinkable water, perishable food, and air conditioning. The island’s hospitals are struggling to keep generators running as diesel fuel dwindles.
