Imposing personal responsibility on corporate crime directors is part of the essential reforms needed to reboot our financial, social and economic systems on to sustainable footings. Surveys suggest that there is already wide public support for this. It is likely to find political support when the building financial crunch reveals the massive capital and budget holes left from 20 years of crony capitalism, political capture, legal forbearance and bailouts to negligent and criminal actors. This should not be a partisan issue, we all need accountability in the system if it is to function in support of ideals like capitalism, democracy and the rule of law.
I’m also reintroducing the Ending Too Big to Jail Act to hold big bank executives accountable when the banks they lead break the law. If they cheat their customers & crash our economy, Wall Street CEOs should go to jail like everyone else. pic.twitter.com/uRlfxsoJ44
