Excellent historical perspective on bonds and risk

Robert Kessler, Kessler Companies founder & CEO, explains why he thinks the 10-year Treasury bond is still an attractive place for investors: “I think one of the big mistakes, at least I hear all the time, is we’re going to buy these big cap dividend stocks because in the long term, that will be a good investment. every time I hear the long term, I know someone’s losing money.” Here is a direct link.

Michael Lewis on “Noblesse oblige”

This is something that I was raised to believe and something my husband and I talk about frequently with our children: to whom much is given much is expected, or in the french, “noblesse oblige”. An antiquated concept in a self-determined society perhaps. But I think it is one we would do well to reinvigorate. Here is a direct link.

Watch Michael Lewis: I Aimed To Give Something Unexpected on PBS. See more from PBS NewsHour.

Here is a clip of Michael’s full speech in case you would like to hear it.  I find his life story and journey to being a writer refreshingly honest and encouraging to others.

Risk off warning continues

A review of one of our favorite risk guages this morning confirms a continued “risk off” warning that has been present in global markets since late March. At the same time with yesterday’s election news that Greece hopes to stay in the Euro a while longer, the Volatility Index (VIX) has dropped more than 11% today. Does the Greek election make further QE from the US Fed more or less likely this week? US dollar strength seems to suggest less, the VIX seems to be expecting policy action from somewhere. Which Central Bank will blink next?
