Demand for greenbacks intensifies

As the US dollar Index (DXY) hangs in this morning above 93, other commodities like precious metals, oil, natural gas and equities are losing ground once more. While most people understand that the world is highly indebted today, many miss that the largest share of that debt is denominated in US dollars. As international trade shrinks and exporters receive fewer dollars to service their debt, demand for dollars intensifies.

Despite many pundits predicting that the U.S. dollar would lose its global dominance, the coronavirus pandemic has only served to demonstrate how vital it remains to the international financial system. WSJ explains why this isn’t the first crisis to do so.  Here is a direct video link.

Darin Olien Show: Chris Patton and sustainable energy

Chris Patton’s life story is extraordinary and discussed in the first section of this segment (starting at the 6-minute mark on the play bar if you want to skip the opening intro). At the 29 minute mark, Patton starts talking about his revelation that sustainable energy technologies have been available for decades and quashed.  Not anymore. Worthwhile discussion.

For the last decade, Chris has been one of the senior science advisors for the UN on Green Technology. He’s been advising the African Union for over 15 years, as well as sitting on various international economic advisory councils.

Chris has done more than most people could do in four lifetimes. He has an enviable dedication and vigor towards saving us as a species. That’s probably why he and I mesh so well.  This is not a conversation to be missed!  Here is a direct audio link.
