Rich Roll Podcast: Darin Olien, health and food

I discovered vegan ultra-athlete Rich Roll a few years ago when a friend sent me his book Finding Ultra (which I highly recommend).  Since then I have been following his podcast development with interest.  My family became aware of Darin Olien in watching the popular “Get Down to Earth” mini-series on Netflix this summer (also highly recommended).  The show came about because Darin–long time vegan, superfoods advocate and author–was a guest on one of Rich’s early podcast episodes and was heard by actor Zac Efron who had a show contract with Netflix.  Now Darin has a show of his own in the works as well as a podcast where he features guests and discussions on sustainable foods, energy and health.  Darin’s latest appearance on The Rich Roll Podcast explains their mutual evolution as well as health insights and things that conscientious humans can do daily to be part of the solutions needed.  These discussions tend to run long, but can be consumed in snippets when we need a break from the daily news stream.  Fiat Lux:  Let there be light.

Returning for his 4th appearance on the podcast, Darin Olien is a superfood hunter, NYT bestselling author, wellness entrepreneur & the co-star alongside Zac Efron in the #1 hit Netflix series ‘Down To Earth’. Today Darin is here to blow minds and drop wisdom on all things nutrition, hydration, ecological preservation, longevity — and of course superfoods.  Here is a direct video link.

NB chief strategist: ‘negative economic surprises’ on deck

It is rare for a chief market strategist for a major bank to discuss downside risks in Canada so plainly. This segment was recorded during yesterday’s market bounce.  Most stocks, especially in Canada, remain well below their February highs, however, the rebound since March made back some losses and has afforded another opportunity to reduce capital risk and raise liquidity for the next phase of the recession and bear market.  Cash remains king.

Stéfane Marion, chief economist and strategist at National Bank Financial joins BNN Bloomberg for his reaction to the BoC’s rate decision and his current outlook on the market.  Here is a direct video link.

60 Minutes Australia: The Other Great Wall

All the cheap Made in China goods we’ve been buying on credit have come with many costs.

This is China’s most spectacular extravaganza. A hundred years in the making, costing $25 billion, one of the biggest engineering feats the world has ever seen. And, according to its critics, an environmental disaster on a monumental scale. The Three Gorges Dam is certainly a sight to behold, a massive wall of concrete spanning the mighty Yangtze River. The Chinese say it’s all about flood control and clean hydroelectric power. The environmentalists say true, it is about power. Power and national pride and the arrogance of man trying to tame forces of nature.  Here is a direct video link.
