Another smart solution: lab-grown meat

When a focus on health and sustainability combines with smart-tech and vision, there are no problems, only solutions.

“LAB-GROWN BEEF WILL SAVE THE PLANET—AND BE A BILLION-DOLLAR BUSINESS.” –Newsweek

Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Jack and Suzy Welch, Kyle Vogt, Kimbal Musk, New Crop Capital, SOSV, Fifty Years, Inevitable Ventures, top venture capital fund DFJ, as well as Europe’s largest venture capital firm Atomico, and KBW Ventures have all invested in Memphis Meats, a San Franciso-based clean meat company.  Here is their story:

We love meat. However, the way conventional meat is produced today creates challenges for the environment, animal welfare and human health. With global consumers spending nearly $1 trillion per year on meat, and demand for meat expected to double in the coming decades, one thing is clear: we need a better way to feed a hungry world.

That’s why we started Memphis Meats. Our goal is simple: to change the way meat gets to your plate. We’re developing a way to produce real meat from animal cells, without the need to feed, breed and slaughter actual animals. We expect our products to be better for the environment (requiring up to 90% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, land and water than conventionally-produced meat), the animals and public health. And most importantly, they’re delicious.

With our home-base in the San Francisco Bay Area, we’re combining the innovative spirit of Silicon Valley and the rich food traditions of the American south to provide a better meat and world.

Countries can be entirely powered by wind, solar and water

This is what smart plans look like.

A new scientific road map shows how over 70% of the world’s countries – including the UK, US, China and other major economies – could run entirely on energy created by wind, water and solar by 2050.  See: Nearly 140 countries can be powered entirely by wind, solar and water by 2050

…doing so would not only mean the world would avoid dangerous global warming, but also prevent millions of premature deaths a year and create about 24 million more jobs than were lost.

One of the scientists said the social benefits of following their roadmap were so “enormous” and essentially cost free that human society should “accelerate the transition to wind, water and solar as fast as possible”.

Rooftop solar panels and major solar power plants; offshore and onshore wind turbines; wave, hydroelectric and tidal schemes; and geothermal energy would also be used to replace fossil fuels to generate electricity, power vehicles and heat homes.

Profits in fossil fuel companies and services will continue to be under assault from declining demand as well as rising damages and reparation costs.  Suing the companies and individuals who have enabled great harm while lying and creating false reports to cover it up for decades now, will give lawyers work in class action suits for years to come.  See:  Exxon duped public over climate concerns, Harvard Research says and What Exxon Mobil didn’t say about climate change:

Even while Exxon Mobil scientists were contributing to climate science and writing reports that explained it to their bosses, the company was paying for advertisements that told a very different tale.

Rampant self-dealing and financial conflicts undermining the rule of law

This is not capitalism or a meritocracy it is how democracy is undone and civil wars born to force change.

Rachel Maddow explains how Donald Trump’s Special Adviser on Regulator Reform oversaw a part of the market that ultimately benefited him to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. Here is a direct video link.
